Paper manipulation and 3D shape exploration

Today we were looking at different themes and ideas, myself and my class were given a workshop looking into 3D shape and how to create alternate outcomes using a specific process which was to start with a 2D shape and add, remove or manipulate the existing 2D drawing and then assemble the piece. This way we can see how each contour is formed from the net we created. We started initially with small forms, drawing out the nets and creating a series of outcomes. The next lesson we had on the 3D shape realization was then to expand on these themes. We chose one of our smaller shapes that we felt came out particularly well and we then fashioned a larger replica of this which we began exploring on a mannequin and investigating how we could adjust the shape to sit well on the human figure. I enjoyed the spontaneity of the final shapes created and the mystery of not knowing exactly how the shape will take form.
